Water Quality Control Facility

Division Responsibilities

The Water Quality Control Facility Division is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the city's Water Quality Control Facility (WQCF).

The treatment plant covers approximately 240 acres and has a design capacity of 2.25 million gallons per day. Daily operation of the facility is handled by Chief Plant Operator(CPO) Nathan Gardner.

Approximately 1.8 million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater are treated daily.

North Oxidation Ditch

This 0.8 MGD Lakeside Oxidation Ditch was built in 1980 and upgraded in 2009. It typically achieves 99% or reduction in biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and total suspended solids.

Advanced Integrated Pond System

The 0.2 MGD advanced integrated pond system can achieve 81% reduction in BOD and TSS. It also functions as a flow equalization basin in the event of repairs to either activated sludge system.

Wes-Tec South Oxidation Ditch

The 1.25 MGD Wes-Tec oxidation ditch was put into service in 2005 and can achieve 99% reduction in BOD, TSS, and nitrogen. This system saves on electrical costs by controlling oxygen levels using varispeed drive 100 HP aerators.
