Winter Aquatics Activities

Winter Swim Clinic 

This clinic, spearheaded by Patterson Pirates Coach Denise, will improve your swimmer’s technique and thereby improving their overall speed. All swimmers are encouraged to attend, whether you are looking to help your child obtain the skills necessary to be a part of a swim team, or a seasoned swimmer looking to refine skills.

Registration:  Registration is available online or in person at the Recreation Department. Registration is open December 12th, 2018 and closes January 3rd , 2019. A minimum of 38 registrations is required for this course to run. 

Life Guard Academy

City of Patterson’s Life Guard Academy is a course that follows the American Red Cross life guarding curriculum. Participants will be provided with a Life Guard Manual, and a CPR training Mask. Successful completion of Life Guard Academy will result in participants obtaining First Aid, CPR & AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificates and Life Guarding Certificates.

Age:                     15 and older (by the last day of the course)

Day:                     Monday - Sunday

                                                                         Feb 1:       3:00 – 4:00 pm

                             Course Dates and Times: Feb 3 – 7:        3:30 pm – 8:30 pm

                                                                         Feb 8 – 9:        10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Location:             Patterson Aquatic Center & Hammon Senior Center

Cost:                    $40 Resident, $202 Non - Resident

Registration:       Registration is available only after the Participant has passed the Pre-Test. The Pre-Test is FREE and can be registered for at patterson.perfectmind.com or in person at the Recreation Department.

Other Details:      Participants must be 15 years old by the last day of class, or older. Participants must pass a pretest before enrolling in the course. The pre-test includes:

  • A 300-yard swim
  • A timed pre-test that consists of a 20-yard swim to retrieve a 10 lb. object from at least 10 ft. deep and return to the starting point, making sure to keep the object and their head above the water.
  • Tread water for 2 minutes without the help of their hands.

All components must be successfully completed to participate in Life Guard Academy.

Participants cannot take the pre-test more than once in 24 hours.

Life Guard Review Course

The Lifeguard Review Course is designed to review the lifeguarding skills and core knowledge points required to re-certify in lifeguarding. This course follows American Red Cross guidelines, successful completion of this course will earn the participant an updated Life Guard and First Aid/CPR/AED for the First Responder certificate. Registration: December 19 and ends Jan 28 for the first Session and ends April 21 for the second session.

Other Details:    Participants must have current Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, or Shallow Water Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate and must bring their certificate for the first day of class. Note: If certifications are expired. Participants must take the full Lifeguarding or Shallow Water Lifeguarding course.
